Bishop Wayne Kirkpatrick announces the following pastoral appointments:
Priests new to our diocese
Rev. Tom Stephan from the Diocese of Miao, India was appointed on March 1, 2023 to serve at St. Patrick Parish, Lochaber, St. Paul Church, Sherbrooke and St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph.
Rev. Sunny Sebastian from the Diocese of Irinjalakuda, Kerala, India was appointed on November 11, 2022 to serve at St. Peter Church, Port Hood.
Rev. MacLeen Anyanwu Ejiogu SMMM from the Diocese of MacKenzie/Fort Smith is appointed to serve at St. Anne Church in Glace Bay effective August 7, 2023.
Rev. Godwin Kalu SMMM from St. Raphael Church Blackville, NB to serve at St. Ann, Guysborough, St. Peter, Larry’s River, St. Patrick, Guysborough Interval and St. Thomas, Salmon River effective July 4, 2023.
Retirements / Sabbatical / Transfer
Rev. Dan J. MacDonald will retire at the end of June as Pastor of St. Mary in Mabou, but he will continue to provide weekend assistance until August or a when a new pastor is appointed.
Rev. Bedford Doucette has retired as Producer for Mass for Shut-Ins at the end of May 2023. He has also retired as Diocesan Master of Ceremonies.
Deacon Art Riley serving Immaculate Conception, Heatherton, St. Andrew, St. Andrews, and Ste. Croix, Pomquet retired on December 31, 2022.
Rev. Duaine Devereaux will go on sabbatical effective August 5, 2023.
Rev. Callistus Abazie SMMM is transferring to New Brunswick effective July 4, 2023 from St. Ann, Guysborough, St. Peter, Larry’s River, St. Patrick, Guysborough Interval and St. Thomas Salmon River. We thank Father Callistus for his 10 years of service here.
Deacons
Deacon Michael McCarvill will move from Our Lady of Fatima, Sydney River to serve at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, Sydney.
Deacon Berkley Guthro, in addition to serving as the Bishop’s Delegate for Responsible Ministry, will serve as Diocesan Master of Ceremonies.
Seminarians
Following his ordination to the transitional Diaconate on August 15, 2023 at St. Mary Church in Mabou, Deacon David Rankin will return to St. Augustine’s Seminary in September for his final year.
Seminarian Joseph MacMaster will return to St. Augustine’s Seminary in September for his second year of Theology.
Other Appointments
Mrs. Gladys MacDougall and Mrs. Marie MacNeil have been appointed along with Deacon Berkley Guthro to serve as the Bishop’s Delegates for Responsible Ministry.
We thank Father Angus MacDougall, Jim Kehoe, Frank Howell and Carl Turner who have served so well for a long time as members of our Diocesan Finance Council.
We welcome the following new members serving on our Diocesan Finance Council: Louise Campbell, Deacon Barry Miller and Robert Rogers.
