Rev. Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr

Father Pierre Antoine St. Cyr, C.S.C., died April 1, 2025 in Chéticamp Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer. He was age 57, in his 27th year of priesthood. He had served as Pastor of Paroisse Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp, and Paroisse Saint-Joseph, St. Joseph du Moine, since June 2019.

Born on May 7, 1967, in Port-à-Piment, in the Coteaux district of Haiti’s Sud department, Father Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr, C.S.C., grew up in a vibrant faith that nourished his religious and priestly vocation. His journey toward the priesthood began in September 1989, when he entered the novitiate of the Congregation of the Holy Cross in Bel-Air, Cap-Haïtien. He made his first religious profession on August 26, 1990, marking his initial commitment to the religious family founded by Blessed Father Basile Moreau.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a deep love for the truth, he pursued studies in Thomistic philosophy at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame d’Haiti in Cazeau, where he acquired a solid intellectual and spiritual formation. His priestly formation was enriched by a post-philosophical internship experience at Pilate (1992-1993), where he lived closely with the communities he would later serve with zeal and compassion.

From 1993 to 1997, he furthered his theological training at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame d’Haïti in Cazeau. On November 30, 1997, he took his final vows in Dory, in the diocese of Les Cayes, definitively dedicating his life to Christ and the mission of Sainte-Croix. He was ordained a priest on August 9, 1998, in Les Cayes by Bishop Joseph Serge Miot, and since then, he has committed himself with remarkable pastoral ardor to the service of the Church.

Endowed with exceptional apostolic zeal and a deep sense of pastoral duty, Father St-Cyr has served in various ministries in several parishes, where he has left an indelible mark. He has successively served:

  • Parish Vicar in Le Borgne (1997-2001),
  • Parish Priest of Magagnosse-Labadie (2001-2007),
  • Parish Priest of Ravine-Trompette (2008-2011),
  • Vicar in Duchity (2011-2013),
  • Missionary in the Diocese and Cathedral of Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, Canada (2013-2016),
  • Pastoral Director in Fort-Liberté (2016-2018),
  • Head of a Pastoral Unit in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia, Diocese of Antigonish, Canada (2018-2025).

In this ordeal of separation, we unite in prayer with his biological family, particularly his brothers and sisters, Flore St-Cyr and Damas Jn-Luc and all the confreres of the Province of Our Lady of Perpetual Help of the Congregation of the Holy Cross.

Funeral Mass was celebrated with his cremated remains on Friday, April 25, 2025, St. Pierre Church in Chéticamp.
Burial is to be alongside his confreres at the Holy Cross cemetery in Haiti.
