Father Peter Paul Piva
Rev. Peter Piva of Sydney passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on February 8, 2019, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. Born in Glace Bay to the late Angelo and Gina Piva. Father Peter was a brother, a comforter, a counselor, and a wise spiritual director. He lived a humble simple life with a fantastic wit. Father Peter loved God, and lived his life as a Shepard of the faith, and was loved by all. Peter graduated from St. FX and went on to St. Paul’s seminary, he was ordained into the Priesthood at the age of 25. He spent his 40 plus years as a priest serving at 5 parishes in Nova Scotia, primarily in Cape Breton. Father Peter was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and helped to facilitate in many Catholic women’s prayer groups. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially Lenard Aucoin, his childhood best friend of 80 years. Father Peter is survived by his sisters Elsa Smith, Pasadena CA, Esther Boulton, Trenton, On, and his brother Gus Piva, Ottawa On, and many nieces and nephews. Father Peter was predeceased by his parents and his sister Louise Fielding. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s in Reserve Mines, 2:30 pm on Wednesday, February 13th, with Bishop Brian Dunn officiating. Reception to follow, with interment at a later date
