Father Fredrick A. Morley 96 – Sydney. Father Fredrick A. Morley died at the age of 96 years on Monday, June 3rd, 2019 at his residence. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A native of Glace Bay Father Fred was the son of the late Joseph H. Morley and Agnes (Curry) Morley. After attending St. Anne’s School and graduating from Glace Bay High, Father Fred received a Bachcelor of Arts Degree from St.F.X. University. Following his studies at St.F.X., Father Fred entered Holy Heart Seminary In Halifax and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Antigonish in 1948.
His pastoral appointments in the Diocese included Mount Carmel, New Waterford, Sacred Heart, Johnstown; St. Peters, Tracadie; Stella Maris, Pictou; St. Pauls, Harve Boucher; Holy Rosary, Westmount; and St. Columba, Iona. From 1990-92 Father Fred’s Ministry took him to the Diocese of Edmonton where he served as Pastor in Jasper Alberta. Since his retirement, Father Fred has helped out in various parishes throughout the Diocese of Antigonish. He also said Sunday Mass for residents of Harbourstone Nursing Home, Sydney, in recent years. Pastoral ministry was Father Fred’s strength and he lived his faith in his daily interaction with parishioners. He had a great zest for life and loved the people he served in God’s name. Father Fred was predeceased by siblings Joseph, Dr. Mary, William, Tersea, John, James, Fr. Frank, Charles, Monica, Sisters Agnes and Alice, Sisters of Charity and Father Tom. Father Fred is survived by many nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Visitation for Father Fred Morley will take place at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney on Thursday June 6, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. On Friday June 7, remains will be transferred to St. Anne’s Church Glace Bay for visitation at noon. A funeral mass will follow at 2 pm with Bishop Brian Dunn presiding and the priests of the Diocese concelebrating.
