Bishop Raymond Lahey of the Diocese of Antigonish has announced the following pastoral appointments for the Diocese. Except where otherwise noted, these appointments are effective September 28, 2005.
Father Anthony MacDonald, until now Parish Priest of St. Michael, Baddeck, and Queen of the World, Wagmatcook, will retire from active parish service.
Father Paul McGillvray, until now Parish Priest of St. Anthony Daniel, Sydney, and St. Anne, Membertou, is appointed Parish Priest of St. Michael, Baddeck, and Queen of the World, Wagmatcook.
Father McGillvray is also appointed Coordinator of Social Justice Ministry for the Diocese of Antigonish, effective immediately.
Father Donald MacGillivray, until now on sabbatical leave, is appointed Parish Priest of St. Anthony Daniel, Sydney, and St. Anne, Membertou.
Father Peter LeBlanc, until now Parish Priest of St. Anthony, Glace Bay, St. Gregory, Donkin, and St. Mary, Port Morien, is appointed Parish Priest of St. Pierre, Cheticamp, and St. Joseph, St. Joseph du Moine, effective January 3, 2006. In the interim, current arrangements for the pastoral care of these parishes will be continued. Father LeBlanc will complete his appointment in the Glace Bay area on September 26, 2006, and will pursue a program of French immersion until taking up his new appointment. A further announcement will be made shortly regarding the provision of a priest for St. Anthony, St. Gregory and St. Mary parishes.
Father Anthony O’Connor, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart, Sydney, has been given a six-month sabbatical leave beginning in August 2005. Father Sandy MacNeil will oversee the pastoral care to the parish in the interim.
